Unitenow statement on General Secretary Election 2017

After extensive debate at a national meeting, Unitenow have decided that at this present time, we will not endorse any of the candidates in the upcoming General Secretary Election of Unite the Union. We believe that the election of the Executive Council of the Union is of more importance, this is something that appears to be losing focus since the announcement of the General Secretary election.

In order for transparency and democracy to flourish within our union, it is paramount that we elect a diverse and independent Executive Council from all sectors, regions and equality strands that exist within our union.

We would therefore urge all members to participate in the election of YOUR Executive Council and to give serious consideration to all candidates. The Executive Council is the supreme decision body of our union and it can, and must, hold the General Secretary to account – regardless of who is actually elected.
